The Battle of Davis Mills

One of the Civil War’s most dramatic and lop-sided battles was between the remnant of the 25th Indiana and Van Dorn’s 10,000 Confederate men. It is unique among the battles of Suite Harmonic because it is not fully rendered on the page but told as the story of what happened by John Given, who fought in it, to his cousin Menomen O’Donnell, later a Medal of Honor recipient. In honor of the 150th anniversary of Davis Mills, for the month of December John will tell his story in print on emilymeier.com.
